About Sendmail and makefile of FreeBSD

Hi Everybody , 

	I know that , sendmail is pice of FreeBSD but it's using 8.x I want
to use 9.x, question is ; 

	Does it possbile to disable sendmail8 in conf file and install ports
sendmail 9 ? 

	Or I have to recompile kernel and disable base system sendmail 8
then install port version of sendmail 9.x
