4.9 install-boot problems

installed 4.9, when i boot i get the message: "panic:contigmalloc1: size must not be 0" and that's as far as it goes. i dual boot with linux, the mbr is not a problemm since i can select either os without problems. anybody know what the problem is and a fix? appreciate ur help,thanks.
incidentally, / on 4.9 is well inside the 8g limit, though it seems that on freebsd that's not a requirement, at least i haven't seen any mention of it.
