DNS server (BIND 9.2) gives answers to secondary query but not to resolvers queries

Anyone got any strategies in testing where problems are arising on our email
server, FreeBSD 4.9 with BIND 9.2. The DNS secondary (seconday.org)
successfully gets zone data but going to www.dnsstuff.com results in queries
to the name server timing out.
