patch for SSHD help !?!?!

Hello,
Im running FBSD 4.8rc1 and im trying to patch the sshd using the
directions on the freebsd site. Im also using the out of the box version
of Openssh ...it think OpenSSH 3.5p1

anywho im killing the sshd deamon and doing the following:

patch < ~brent/PATCHES/buffer46.patch

it then asks me
File To Patch:    < what do i do here ??..what file ??

Ive never used this procedure before. Is there a howto on this procedure
that someone might be able to point me to ??
any help is great appreciated
