mutex in kld

I am using mutex in a kld.
mutex protects an open file so lock and unlock functions are called from 
open and close functions of the kld repectively.
but when i start second instance of an application working on this file, my 
system hangs.
there is no sleep call in the code.

can anybody figure out what's the prob.
