Somewhere, i think in /usr/local/lib/gphoto2 is the list of drivers for
gphoto2, on some computers i have had to remove all but the canon drivers to
make it work with the Canon Powershot S40. (I am not sure why)

Yes, its not that complicated once you work out how. There is a program called
camcontrol which you need to use, it took me a while to learn how to use it.
I have written instructions for mounting usb drives for the handbook but
havent had time to sgmlize it yet.
The document is on my home computer. In the mean time you could try working it
out with man pages, first you start device with "camcontrol", then mount with
"mount_msdos". If your still stuck email me and and I will forward the not
quite finished handbook doc.
