Where would I look to find release 8.1 iso files ?

Perfect. I will be doing a bootstrap of gcc 7.2.0 in any case.

Even more perfect. Stripped down and bare bones is just fine. So long as
there is a console, very basic networking and ssh as well as gcc and
some sort of termcap setup then I am fine. If I had it my way there
would be a serial console at 9600 baud 8n1.  No need for X.  Yet.
