Trying to install FreeBSD 8.2-RC1 on a PowerMac G5

Yes, you can multiboot. You'll need to setup as such:
p1: Apple partition map
p2: 1M Apple boot strap
p3: /FreeBSD / root system
p4: / FreeBSD-swap
p5: /FreeBSD var
p6: /FreeBSD tmp
p7: /FreeBSD /usr
p8: /FreeBSD /usr/local
p9: /FreeBSD /home

That's my layout.

p10: Apple bootstrap
p11: Linux / root system
p12: Swap

And whatever else you want.

Just be sure not to use anything dedicated to FreeBSD.
Follow instructions for both.
Holding down the option key will show you a disc image with a penguin for
the gentoo and a disc image- this represents the FreeBSD install- after the
base of both systems are setup.
