Been trying to catch you on IRC.
I would have thought that "ONLY_FOR_ARCHS= alpha amd64 i386" (ie, no
sparc64) not keep 'make index' from looking at this port.[*]  Anyway,
I've removed the use of .error.

[*] for the benefit of others, Kris reminded me that index builds (and
other types of metadata extraction) visit every port.
