I re-read all the posts and now I get the problem so I did a minor 3 line edit
to the PHP80 Makefile and now MYSQLND is building with
auth_plugin_caching_sha2_password & auth_plugin_sha256_password support and I
can connect to MySQL 8.0 without disabling anything.

Look forward to a more professional long-term fix.
