System volume slider does not work, except muting at lowest level
I have recently upgraded Gnome to 3.38 on a FreeBSD-12.1 system. I am using a
DH67CL Intel mainboard with i3-2120 processor and using HDMI output for sound.
The sound slider on the upper right corner does nothing if I increase or
decrease. However, If I slide it down, the sound mutes. I checked that my
device is a Intel Cougar Point HDMI output and it has a 'Vol' and 'PCM' as
controls listed in mixertui. If I adjust 'PCM', I can increase or decrease
sound volume. So, I believe Gnome's volume control is mapped to 'Vol'. So, in
order to get sound volume control to work, mapping system sound in Gnome to
'PCM' is needed.
I had also tried adding HDMI device details to /boot/device.hints and it did
not work. Please help to make the sound volume control in Gnome-3.38 work. Let
me know, if any other details needed.
