Looking through the extensive degug files I can see where the GNOMETERMINAL
option is initially "on" but later changed to "off" and MATETERMINAL is changed
from "off" to "on".

"/var/db/ports/security_secpanel/options" now has "MATETERMINAL" SET and
GNOMETERMINAL UNSET.

I don't know what happened - maybe I failed to completely remove something. At
any rate, repeated deinstall/reinstall now shows the desired terminal
selection. Maybe I moved the cursor to "MATE-Terminal" but failed to activate
the option. I don't know. Sorry about the unnecessary chatter.
