If portmgr agrees I would indeed like to switch i386 to lld before 12.1. (I
wanted to make the change for 12.0 but too many ports failed.)

I think we do need to fix up remaining i386 failures before MFC though, and in
particular the Free Pascal / lazarus-related ones.
