Installed ports on 12/01/19, before the update.

After I updated /usr/ports at 15:05 18/01/19 UTC, and then ran "portupgrade
-a", my desktop stopped working properly.  Initially, after logging in, all
seems more or less normal (see below for a fuller description), but after a
number of window operations, the desktop menus are transparent with only the
outline shadowing visible and application menus are just black.  Any new
windows that are opened show only the frame, their interior being black.  At
this point the only option is to log on through the console and manually kill
the running kdeinit5 process.
