I want to keep 1.8 in -devel port for some more time, because 1.8 branch has a
lot of drastic changes and 1.7 is very stable.

I'd prefer to stick to upstream as much as possible (do not make local changes
unless really necessary).  So I'd grab that patch as is, and if it is really
needed to adjust it for clang that push these changes upstream (clang is used
not only on FreeBSD, so others will also benefit).
