Both -O1 and -O3 fix the hang but -O2 even manages to crash lang/gcc6 on i386.

Yep, CC me. I'd like to drop bug 193528 workarounds and USE_GCC=yes ports
unblocked on aarch64 once 6.3.1 is out.
