It can and should be sent upstream since it affects other platforms in addition
to FreeBSD.  I am not planning on doing it myself since I am not familiar with
the upstream bug reporting procedures.  I'm hoping that the port maintainer can
handle that and then remove the local patch after the problem has been fixed
upstream.
