I experienced the same problem, and your second patch makes tuxguitar start. I
don't know exactly what the SWT browser is, but it seems to be broken as you
suspected. When I click Help -> Documentation, an error box appears saying:

No more handles [MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME='/usr/local/lib/']
(java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: Could not load SWT library. Reasons:
        no swt-mozilla-gtk-3738 in java.library.path
        no swt-mozilla-gtk in java.library.path
        Can't load library:
/home/volki/.swt/lib/FreeBSD/x86_64/libswt-mozilla-gtk-3738.so
        Can't load library:
/home/volki/.swt/lib/FreeBSD/x86_64/libswt-mozilla-gtk.so
