No, my port wants a feature only offered by the newer version. But other ports
would work fine with the newer version too -- yet, they insist on the older
version.

It is this insistence, that I wish to see corrected. The insistence is recorded
in the Makefiles of the ports, not in the vendors' Python-scripts.
