>Description:
pkg2ng converts the package database, in a non-reversible manner, to the new format. If running a release earlier than 10, /etc/make.conf requires the line
  WITH_PKGNG=yes
for port builds to work.

It would be helpful if pkg2ng automagically updated /etc/make.conf to contain this line if it is not already there; it will save a lot of complaints / questions when people upgrade.

If one upgrades using pkg2ng and then attempts to build a port, the build will start to work correctly and then fail when attempting to install with a message about the package database being corrupted. The only clue to the fact that the problem is the missing entry in /etc/make.conf is that the error messages are from pkg_install, which is the old pkg environment.
>How-To-Repeat:
# pkg2ng
# cd /usr/ports
# portmaster foo/bar

>Fix:
Manually add
  WITH_PKGNG=yes
to /etc/make.conf
