Really, I am not a troll!
Font-alias has disappeared from my ports tree as well.
I have been wildly cvsupping from ftp.uk.freebsd.org, ftp.ie.freebsd.org,
ftp.freebsd.org, and I am not sure which one did have it.
The origin of this is that I have been running FreeBSD 5.5as my
desktop for some time on an i386 with an NVidia GForce card. I deleted
everything and installed
6.2.
SInce then, I have been unable to get Xorg running. I persistently get the
problem "unable to find default font 'fixed'".
Wild and ferocious
use of Google suggested that this was curable by the use of the
font-alias port. I
found it after a cvsup
from one of the three locations listed above, but it would not install: I
got an error message suggesting that the
file was missing from distinfo, but I guessed that the real problem was the
file extension. However, I was not able to
get it to build.
I have cvsupped frequently in a desperate attempt to get my FreeBSD system
working again - I do not enjoy using WIn2K to type this! Also I need to
access my e-mail from the server, which I don't know how to do with WIndows.
The original problem started several weeks ago. In my desperation, I
accidentally wiped a disk with an old /usr/ports filesystem on when I meant
to wipe a different disk.
I now can't find the font-alias port either. However, I swear it did exist,
and there are people who say it is the solution to my problem, although its
quite likely a red herring.
Please can you find a way to contact someone who knows how to get Xorg
working with an NVIdia card, and update the docs so wecan fix the underlying
problem. I don't want font-alias, I want a working gui on kit that did have
one. Please.
I did also try git at some stage, so that may have been the way that it
crept in, but I doubt it. I did not get any ports ot build using git anyway,
and wiped it quickly.
regards
Andrew
