Openoffice 2.0 build fails on current

I get this far:

checking the installed JDK... test: 0: unexpected operator
test: 0: unexpected operator
test: 0: unexpected operator
test: 0: unexpected operator
configure: error: JDK is too old, you need at least 1.3


I have this installed:
diablo-jdk-1.5.0.06.00 Java Development Kit 1.5.0_06.00

Any help getting this going?
