setup.bin segfaults when not root

OpenOffice 1.1 setup segfaults on my system when I'm not running as root.  
However, it works fine when I am running as root.   
 
System info: 
 
FreeBSD 5.2-RELEASE 
openoffice-1.1.0_1 built from ports 
 
There was a post regarding this issue in December, but it was never answered 
satisfactorily. 
 
Any help would be greatly appreciated
