M$ and Open Office

Hi Everyone

I have installed open office and cannot open M$ docs - both word and
excel have failed. Is there something in the  config I should be looking
at. Sorry for my ignorance, it's just that I assumed it would open M$
stuff straight away, I have also installed the program on a windows
machine, and that one opened M$ docs of all kinds right away. I am using
FreeBSD 4.8. If it should be opening them straight away, any suggestions
?
