Thanks every one for the help.
All the internal adsl cards I've seen look very expencive, and the machine 
doesn't have USB. The idea of using FreeBSD to the port forwarding/
firewalling what is so good (I've met with some ribbish and seriously flawed 
OSes on these ethernet/modem things). OpenBSD looks better for the job but I 
doubt I could change it.
It might be cheaper to get an ethernet modem and use two network cards in the 
router machine. That way I could still have decent firewall and 
portforwarding
