bryan ,
if gnome is installed fully all you need to do is type 
 #gdm
or just type #startx

if startx fails just edit ~/.xinitrc and add/change the 
line exec gdm

if gnome is not installed just  do the following :
#cd /usr/ports/x11/gnome2
#make install clean

wait........wait ......... wait

when make is done .... just do what i explained earlier :)
