As far as I can see, it is impossible to change the cache config at runtime,
the relevant variables are all only settable in /boot/loader.conf.

Not sure if KASSERTs help in this case, since I doubt that the reporter is
willing to run a debug kernel. In general, they could be added, but it would be
more helpful to understand how to trigger the issue (except for memory
corruption).
