bnxt(4) and VLANs - supposed to work?

Hi all,

FreeBSD 11.2-STABLE (FreeNAS):

bnxt0: flags=8842<BROADCAST,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> metric 0 mtu 1500 options=e527bb<RXCSUM,TXCSUM,VLAN_MTU,VLAN_HWTAGGING,JUMBO_MTU,VLAN_HWCSUM,TSO4,TSO6,LRO,WOL_MAGIC,VLAN_HWFILTER,VLAN_HWTSO,RXCSUM_IPV6,TXCSUM_IPV6>
    ether 00:25:90:5f:9a:82
    hwaddr 00:25:90:5f:9a:82
    nd6 options=9<PERFORMNUD,IFDISABLED>
    media: Ethernet autoselect (1000baseT <full-duplex,rxpause,txpause>)
    status: active
vlan1: flags=8843<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> metric 0 mtu 1500
    options=600703<RXCSUM,TXCSUM,TSO4,TSO6,LRO,RXCSUM_IPV6,TXCSUM_IPV6>
    ether 00:25:90:5f:9a:82
    inet 217.29.45.32 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 217.29.45.255
    nd6 options=9<PERFORMNUD,IFDISABLED>
    media: Ethernet autoselect (1000baseT <full-duplex,rxpause,txpause>)
    status: active
    vlan: 1 vlanpcp: 0 parent interface: bnxt0
    groups: vlan

No traffic shows when I use tcpdump - either on vlan1 or bnxt0 - simply zero.
There must be some broadcast frames flying past even if the switch on the
other end should be misconfigured which I doubt ;-)

Same configuration on dozens of servers running fine - this is our first system
with bnxt(4).

I found this:
https://forums.freebsd.org/threads/problem-with-vlans-on-broadcom-with-bnxt.64455/

Any hints very much appreciated,
Patrick
