That doesn't work, but I think it's part of the fix:  Before the patch, when I
powered off the system from FreeBSD, the NIC link/activity LEDs stayed off. 
With the patch, the link LED stays on and the activity LED blinks as expected.

Other folks:  Please test the patch, in case it really works but I've
misconfigured something in my BIOS.
