Thanks Dan. I have managed to get istgt working. I was trying use without CHAP. I thought if I set "AuthMethod to Auto" in istgt.conf it would be sufficient. However I had to comment out the netmask line under [InitiatorGroup1] as well.

I have been using istgt for quite a while with no problems, both as a regular drive attachment and a full diskless iSCSI boot of Windows. Check istgt's entries in /var/log/messages and see if it logs something useful about why it refused the login.
