The last time I had FreeBSD on this machine was with 7.0-RELEASE (or
7.1?), and I didn't have the GA511 at that time, so I don't know
whether it worked before or not.

(Incidentally, on my other machine, I get "PHY read failure" all the
time with its Marvell Yukon controller [if_msk])
