I was going to say that being in ports isn't too far away, but then
realised that unless it's in base it can't be used for installation ..
so +1 on that wish.

That section maybe could suggest mpd as an alternative, too. When I
first was setting up for pppoe Bruce Simpson strongly urged me to try
mpd instead, which was advice that I'm still appreciating.
Last I heard, pppd(8) was getting close to being deprecated (not to
suggest that ppp(8) using pppoe is in any similar state of neglect)
