default route

Probably not.  Packets you send to 192.168.0.0/16 when doing a ping are 
subject to the same routing as kernel generated replys to that network.  
Check out "netstat -rnfinet" to make sure your routing is what you 
believe it to be.  Also use tcpdump to verify your assumptions.
