'ifconfig ath0 scan' hangs under 6.0-STABLE

I have an atheros PCI card (cisco aironet) operating bridged with
fxp0. All is working fine. The only thing is that if I try to do a
scan with 'ifconfig ath0 scan' (as documented in the manpage), it
hangs. I've let it sit for 1/2 hour and it never prints
anything. Hitting ctrl-C breaks out just fine. Any ideas?
