You can try booting the installation CD and select "LiveCD" in the
installer, or easier, try the live version of PCBSD:
ftp://ftp.pcbsd.org/pub/mirror/9.1-RC3/amd64/PCBSD9.1-RC3-x64-USB-live.img.bz2
