I just posted a message to the "current" mailing list with Mat's latest
MIDI patchset attached.  You may want to have a go at that.  You're
bound to have better luck than with those older patches.

Currently, only cmi and emu10k1-based cards are supported,
unfortunately, but Mat is working on support for more cards.

Look for "Subject: Latest MIDI patchset from Mat" in the current
list.
