another sound question

You should test plain WAVs...

No, they aren't ok. As mpg123 reports: they contain illegal Audio MPEG
headers. mpg123 isn't able to play the mp3pro content of mp3pro files...
maybe you have mp3pro files instead of real mp3 files.
