The KMS support in FreeBSD was written by kib@ under a contract from
the FreeBSD Foundation. That contract did not all for support of
console mode and kib stated quite clearly, before KMS was added to
FreeBSD, that he had no interest in working on this, but that he hoped
that someone else would step up to write it. I seem to recall that he
might have offered some pointers for any potential volunteers, but I
may be thinking of Radeon KMS support.
In any case, it is not a bug, but simply a capability FreeBSD
currently lacks. Volunteers are always appreciated!
