I have some notes on installing FreeBSD on a Fujitsu Lifebook at http://wiki.openslate.org. Good luck!

Subject: Xorg problems on Fujitsu LifeBook S6120
To: <freebsd-mobile at freebsd.org>
Hi,
I have this old laptop, a Fujitsu LifeBook S6120[1], which I have
installed FreeBSD 8.1-stable on:
root at test-fi# uname -a
FreeBSD test-fi.kg4.no 8.1-STABLE FreeBSD 8.1-STABLE #0: Sun Nov 14
13:20:33 CET 2010 root at test-fi.kg4.no:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/GENERIC
i386
The machine has Intel Integrated gfx, like so:
root at test-fi# pciconf -lv | grep -A 4 vga
vgapci0 at pci0:0:2:0: class=0x030000 card=0x120e10cf chip=0x35828086 rev=0x02 hdr=0x00
vendor = 'Intel Corporation'
device = '82852GM/GME/GMV/PM, 855GM/GME Montara Integrated Graphics Device'
class = display
subclass = VGA
vgapci1 at pci0:0:2:1: class=0x038000 card=0x120e10cf chip=0x35828086 rev=0x02 hdr=0x00
vendor = 'Intel Corporation'
device = '82852GM/GME/GMV/PM, 855GM/GME Montara Integrated Graphics Device'
class = display
uhci0 at pci0:0:29:0: class=0x0c0300 card=0x11ab10cf chip=0x24c28086 rev=0x03 hdr=0x00
(I guess the second device is for the external VGA connector.)
I would like to run Xorg on it, but that isn't straightforward.
When I try to use the intel driver (xf86-video-intel-2.7.1_3), the machine just locks up, hard. I
need to power-cycle it. It doesn't even write anything to Xorg.0.log
before locking up.
If I try the vesa driver it actually works, in native mode (1024x768).
But - after I exit from Xorg, the console is all messed up; it looks like
a sync problem; the text waves and rolls.
More details, Xorg.conf files and Xorg.0.log file for vesa on the FreeBSD page for this machine[2].
I have upgraded the bios to the latest I could find on Fujitsu web, that didn't change anything for
Xorg.
Any hints on how to get Xorg working?
