I have a D600, to solve the problems with powerd (X gets pretty
unresponsive) I disabled powerd and I'm now using the ports est and
estctrl (you have to force the install).

estctrl_enable="YES"
estctrl_speed_ac="max"
estctrl_speed_battery="min"
in rc.conf. Works beautiful, I have pretty good battery time now, about
2.5h (real usage) with a nearly 2 years old battery.
