Have you tried the other "radiotap_bsd_*" options? I have the following 
in my /usr/local/etc/kismet.conf;

     source=radiotap_bsd_b,ath0,Atheros_source

and...

     enablesources=Atheros_source

This is for a D-Link DWL-G630 b/g card.
