in /etc/devd.conf:
notify 10 {
match "system" "ACPI";
match "subsystem" "Lid";
action "/etc/rc.lid $notify";
};
/etc/rc.lid can do pretty much anything you want. Mine is this:
#!/bin/sh
# deal with lid switch events
if [$1 = 0x00 ]; then
logger -t Lid Closed at `date`
acpiconf -s 3
else
logger -t Lid Opened at `date`
fi
