I haven't studied your report too much but I'd like to point out that
atheros and wireless support in general is probably going to be much
better in 6.0. I've already reported several problems which have been
fixed in -CURRENT and will be in 6.0.

I have seen this happen to me also, but with wi instead.  My friend has Linksys WRT54G with broadcasting turned off, but he gave me the SSID so I could connect to it.  Anyways, what happens is that we can get my Stinkpad 380ED (yeah, it IS old) to see the network and ping and all that jaz, but we cannot get the Stinkpad onto the internet.
