Ok,
lets say, the Tablet TR3000 (also GoBook) share the same sort of
hardware/driver-software with the Rugged iTronix IX260 II GoBook.
To find out look under XP in the device/system infos.
Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard
PS/2 Compatible Aux Port [Mouse]
Synaptics, Inc. - Progressive Touch Version 7.5.5 24Apr03 *
Semtech, for Stylus Touch screen pointer.
if you find any thing like this, you are properly OK.
The installation of FreeBSD-5.3 will find the nesesery hardware, the
pointer device is recognised as a AUX mouse pointer... just like a 2nd
mouse.... but !
I think to be able to install FreeBSD on a Tablet, you need to create a
sort of old fashion desktop setup... attaches a external CD-ROM or
floppy drive, and a standard external Keyboard for a start, until you
will com to that point where you can set up the X11R6 envirement.
Now at that point you only need to prob the mouse pointer with
AUTO-detection, nothing else ! and X11 will allow you to use the Stylus.
The thing is, that the stylus get recognised, but need calibrating !
In FreeBSD-4.11 was the "XF86config.sample" file, that got the Touch
screen settings in it to be able to calibrate it manually.
Screen resolution ATM RADEON 1024x768 XGA works nice with my screen.
Otherwise I did found a man page for Linux (Slackware-9.0), that
describes how to set up a touch screen under Linux.
I never could find out how to make it work so that the pointer hit's
spot on, Linux use it's own libary file.
Regarding the installation of FreeBSD... you may have to use a FAT16
partition and copy the FreeBSD CD on to it and install it from there, by
booting from a Floppy, or install it over LAN by using a 16bit PCMCIA
network card, even FreeBSD-5.4 don't recognise a 32bit CardBus card
during installation.
Some people will tell you to swoop the HD, but I don't like that.
hope that helps, and I would be very interested to kow how you got on,
may helps me to find the calibration settings I'll need ;o)

| |hi
| |Just wondering if anyone has any idea on how to go about getting Tablets
| |working on freebsd. Does any have any experience in this area?
| |David
|
| in generally, the iTronix GoBook line is very easy to install FreeBSD on
| to, CD-Rom and most of the hardware is recognised.
|
| The laptops are very close to Intel and HP standard, specially the
| Centronix line.
| I use a GoBook IX260 II, and the installation with FreeBSD 4.11, 5.3 and
| 5.4-beta workes with out problems, even the Touch-screen workes, but
| needs calibrating to get the pointer right.
| Now, as far I understand, the Tablet GoBook is very much like a laptop,
| just got the touch screen as main input device, rather than a keyboard.
|
| I even managed to install Sun solaris-10 i386 and got it working very
well.
| in my case I'll wait for the FreeBSD-5.4-release to do my final
| installation on the 2nd 20Gb HD. (Dual-boot with XP on 1st and
| FreeBSD-5.4 works very well.)

How do you access the touch-screen? Does it appear to be a mouse?
What do you use for console input (keyboard)?
Do you have a plan for hardwriting recognition? I would like a general
purpose handwriting recognizer that supplies input just like a keyboard,
useable by standard applications. Not for a text editor or word processor,
more as a way to get input into a text input widget, like a File Save As
dialog box, without rewriting the dialog box code. Have you found anything
like that?

Subject: Linksys PC Card (PCMPC100) not working in 5.3

Dear all:
Recently, I've moved from 4.8 to 5.3. After the upgrade, mi Linksys
card doesn't work anymore. This is
what the kernel reports:
ed1: <Linksys EtherFast 10/100 PC Card (PCMPC100)> at port 0x100-0x11f
irq 11 function 0 config 16 on pccard0
ed1: [GIANT-LOCKED]
ed1: Ethernet address: aa:aa:aa:aa:aa:aa
ed1: if_start running deferred for Giant
type NE1000 (8 bit)
ed1: NIC memory corrupt - invalid packet length 55295
The strange thing is that it works perfectly under 4.8.
Thanks in advance,
Regards,
~ M at X
