I came across this advice:
This is just a shot in the dark by try doing:
sysctl hw.allow_unsupported_io_range=1
Then try loading the snd module.

FWIW, this also works for me on an X23 (2662-E5U to be exact). For the logs,
the needed kernel config lines are:
device smbus
device ichsmb
device smb
device pcm
options PCI_ENABLE_IO_MODES
(I seem to get boot hangs if I leave pcm out).
