Suitability of Sony VAIO laptop for FreeBSD?

yep!  same here, t40p and t41.

and there is the issue of support.  actually, with sony, it is
not an issue.  they have none.  with dell or ibm, they come to
wherever you are the next day.  i have had dell fix a box in
nairobi.
