Serial console on a ThinkPad?

Someone else suggested Firewire.  The T41 does not have a Firewire 
port.  Someone suggested buying a Firewire cardbus and trying that. 
I'm looking around at hardware now.

I read about that last night.  I concluded it didn't give any 
debugging abilities.
