On those old ThinkPads, you have to hold down the F1 key while you
power-on the machine. Keep holding it down until the "Easy-Setup" meny
appears.
Oh, and Easy-Setup isn't your regular BIOS adjustment program.
For that, you need the PS2 utility aka "Configuration utility for DOS".

The Linux people have tpctl (http://tpctl.sourceforge.net/), and I
vaguely remember that somebody started a similar project for FreeBSD,
but I don't think it was ever finished.
