That sounds similar to the problem I was having the other day. (see

By any chance is your CPU being detected with options it doesn't have - for
instance hyperthreading (HTT)? I noticed last night that mine is and I know
that my CPU does not support hyperthreading. I haven't written any emails
to -stable about it yet.
