Hauptman-Woodward Medical Research Institute (Buffalo,NY) is an independent,
non-profit research facility that is committed to improving human health
through biomedical research. In addition to that, it's a really cool place
to work. HWI is a casual, low stress environment. Each of us is very busy
with our work, but it is work that we enjoy. Even though our retirement
plans are very good, generally, our employees refuse to give up their jobs.
HWI is ideal for a person who wants to settle down, enjoy his/her work and
use his/her skills to make a difference.
Hauptman-Woodward Medical Research Institute has an opening for a Systems
Administrator for our MacOS X machines. We are seeking an individual that
has experience integrating Apple workstations running MacOS X into a
predominantly Microsoft Windows environment.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
HWI has about 100 Windows boxes and a firm windows infrastructure. Macintosh
workstations have always had network access, but for the most part, have
been stand-alone workstations. Priority number one will be to provide
seamless integration between our MacOS clients and our Windows services.
Immediate goals are getting users of the Macintosh workstations
authenticating through Active Directory and access to SMB shares. Long term
responsibilities include software installation and system upgrades, resolve
software issues, perform backups and recovery. Depending on your skills, you
may be responsible for dealing with desktop support 1-2 days per week.
Knowledge, Skills, Education and Abilities:
Individual must have a BA/BS in a related field or 3+ years of related
industry experience. Experience administering machines running MacOS X
required. If you aren't comfortable with the CLI and scripting, you need not
apply. Experience using Windows 2000/XP and/or UNIX preferred. Windows
system administration experience, especially Active Directory, and/or any
flavor of UNIX system administration experience a huge plus. Perl, PHP
and/or MySQL experience a plus.
Our IT Department is very much a service oriented department. Our users are
the ones who pay our salaries. Therefore, the candidate must have a positive
attitude, especially when it comes to desktop support. Each of us within the
department have more responsibilities than we can handle, so you must be
able to work with little supervision or guidance.
